Gifts That Make a Difference

Usually this space is devoted to recommending a book or other resource that's helpful in teaching us to manage money wisely. This month, as most of us shop for gifts for the special people in our life, I'd like to encourage each of us to buy a gift for someone we don't even know--someone in need. World Vision is a Christian relief organization that helps impoverished children throughout the world. This link will take you to their holiday catalog in which you can choose from over 100 gifts, some costing as little as $15.

You'll find everything from a pump that'll help a family in Malawi generate clean water for drinking and farming to a package of clothing, blankets, and toys that'll go to an impoverished family in the U.S. You can also buy an ornament or a stuffed animal that can be sent to a loved one. Such gifts will come with a card explaining that the price paid for the gift is being donated in the recipient's name to help children in need.
