Fields of Gold
Have you noticed how popular generosity has become? Bill Clinton wrote about it with his book, "Giving." Oprah is broadcasting about it with her new show, "Oprah's Big Give." And social scientists seem to come out with new reports each month linking generosity with happiness. Of course, thousands of years ago, Jesus taught: "It is more blessed to give than to receive" (Acts 20:35).
Even though we're taught to be generous, and even though doing so is very satisfying, one factor that often gets in the way is fear--the fear that, as Andy Stanley writes, "if we don't look after our own needs first, they might not get looked after at all." In his book, "Fields of Gold," Stanley does a great job helping readers overcome that fear by looking more closely at God's promise to "resupply generous sowers with enough seed to continue sowing generously throughout their lifetimes."
This book is an engaging, encouraging, reassuring call to, as the apostle Paul taught, "excel in this grace of giving" (2 Corinthians 8:7).
