The More You Buy the More You Save
It doesn't take too many readings of the above headline, a standard phrase used to promote sales, to see its fallacy. However, buying things on sale makes all the sense in the world if an item we were going to buy anyway is on sale. Recent articles from Smart Money and the Motley Fool listed lots of ways to spend less on common purchases. For example, for those who spend some of their entertainment budget on restaurant meals, the Smart Money article recommended two web sites (Restaurant.com and DinnerBroker.com) for discounts on such meals.

Another way to spend less is to buy gifts throughout the year instead of waiting until you hear reindeer on the roof before starting your Christmas shopping. Gift giving, especially during the year-end holiday period, can be a major budget buster. Make a list of the people you plan to buy gifts for this year, set a budget, and then look for sales on appropriate gifts. You'll spend less, and you'll be able to sleep in the day after Thanksgiving instead of lining up for the pre-dawn door-buster deals at your local mega-store.
Managing Money by The Book
- "To keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassingly great revelations, there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.'" - 2 Corinthians 12:7-9
