Budget Software Going the Way of the Dinosaur

Microsoft Money, a longtime player in the budget software space, will no longer be available for sale after this month. In a news release , Microsoft cited the "range of options for managing personal finances" now available--from free online tools like Mint.com to those offered by banks. The makers of Quicken, the other main budget software program, say they're working on a way for Money users to import their data into Quicken.

With free online budget tools proliferating , this was bound to happen. Now that a simplified version of Quicken is even available for free online, I wonder how long Quicken software will be around.

Keep in mind, you don't need to use an electronic tool to make use of a budget. Here's a simple guide to getting started.
